Aswathy, a 19-year-old deaf, dumb and partially blind girl of the Sparsh project’s Udaan network, has been getting support from the project for the past eight years. Along with the, she received the opportunity to participate in an on-site internship for people with deaf blindness (PwDb). She visited several government offices as part of her internship program, spoke with officials, and attended advocacy meetings in front of them. Additionally, she completed the tasks associated with renewing the network members’ various documents, including their UDID cards, bus passes, and disability certificates. She went on a visit to vocational training centers and public and private schools to spread awareness of disabilities and make sure those students with disabilities receive extra support in the classroom. Aswathi is now a self-sufficient young girl who has finished her higher secondary education and is going to the computer courses. She is now extremely comfortable communicating with others and expressing her opinions, and she is aware of her rights and opportunities under the 2016 Right to Persons with Disabilities Act.
